Bà Hà Coffee is a coffee shop branding project inspired by Vietnam’s retro visual culture and the tactile craft of linoleum carving.
Vietnam’s retro aesthetics were defined by bold experimentation: pixelated graphics, vibrant colors, and the playful collision of digital and DIY visuals. In contrast, linocut printmaking emphasizes sharp contrast, carved textures, and intentional imperfections. This project merges both influences, combining the nostalgic energy of Y2K-inspired visuals with the raw, handmade quality of hand-carved forms.
Creative decisions behind the logo, typeface choices, pattern and assets
Through Bà Hà Coffee, I explored how analog and digital mediums can coexist while still expressing personal and cultural identity. The branding centers around a logo of myself as an elder woman, representing my personal connection within the project’s cultural narrative.

As someone who primarily works digitally, part of this project was also about reconnecting with the tactile side of making art. I learned to carve my first linocut block for this project, and it was rewarding to see both my carving skills improve over time and people engaging with and enjoying the printed stamps and visuals.
